Because poise, the way it works in this game, it doesn't favor any weapon class, and by not favoring a weapon class, it inevitably in turn favors: weapons with the highest DPS, weapons with the highest poise DPS. And that's not big weapons. It's small weapons. And buffs, not working as they do in 2, also favor small weapons.
With Demon's Souls and the first Dark Souls, backstabs were instant. You get behind an enemy and push the attack button and then you're locked into the backstab animation with the enemy, doing a huge critical attack. With the later Souls games, if you are behind an enemy and go for a backstab, you can whiff as it's not instant.
It's all about the backstab "tech". Backstabs are instant, and the hit detection is dependent on what the attacker sees on their screen. Combined with around half a second of latency on average for a normal connection, this causes backstabs to look goofy much of the time. It's not really a glitch more than simply a consequence of how it all
The backstab has to click "on" now, meaning it has to be in "allow to be backstab" mode. You can see this in action at Hunstman Copse. When Merciless Roennae invades get behind her and try backstabbing while she's attacking. She can't be while her switch is "off" (I've literally dagger slashed her back to stunlocked lack-o-backstab death).
Emad-520. • 7 yr. ago. Get close to an enemy wait till your aim turns red then press triangle. If it didn't work go to your skills and activate it if it's not active but keep in mind you can't backstab all enemies. DatSwampTurtle. • 7 yr. ago.
DS1 had impossible to avoid backstabs that literally became any high level PVP, and Dark Souls 2 had still really hard to avoid backstabs, which were often abused by people wearing gear that completely prevents backstabs to them.
Also the backstab window is fucking huge, so yeah sometimes your side is you back. I've seen AFK(C?) forest bros get turned 90deg into a backstab the window is so huge. It's one of the reason people say backstabs are a bit broken. Also what he's doing to you sounds like chainstabbing, it's a combination of lag/latency, the massive window, and
It does look kind of weird. but I think most of the other animations in the game are better than most of what is in Dark Souls 1 and 3. It's a minor example but the prostration gesture has that much more fluid look to it in Dark Souls 2. And, of course there are the unique backstab and riposte animations. 13.
Im sure a lot of you guys who played Dark Souls 1 saw this happen a bunch. The new backstab mechanic in Dark Souls 2 doesnt allow this. It's funny how a lot of the weird online mechanics in Dark Souls 1 were such a happy accident - sure they were broken, but they came together in a way that it wasnt nearly as frustrating as it could have been."
