Fastingfor 36 hours would inhibit muscle recovery. Correct. Your muscles complete recovery 24-36 hours after the workout. This is why on a full body you take a day off in between. And also why a bro split is sub-par unless
Ifyou're eating 500 cals one day and 'X' calories the next and still gaining weight thats a hint to a bad diet because I would find it hard to eat 3500+ calories in one day without eating bad foods. (2000 cal day x 2 = 3000 - 500 = 3500. You'd have to eat MORE than this to gain) So the advice I gave was directed at someone with a more typical
Lookingfor some motivation. I’m started my first 36 hour fast today. I’m 28F 5’3 SW:220lbs (postpartum) CW: 180lbs GW: 140lbs. I hope to achieve my goal in the next 4 months. It’s not the hunger that’s a problem for my but I get a little dizzy and shaky probably from my blood sugar dropping. Does it get better?
Fastingwith primary goal to lose weight and secondary goal to let gut relax. My insights: Don't pay attention to the scale during lengthy fasting times. On hour 35 you're going to be pretty light, so expect scale fluctuations. For instance, this morning I weighed 187 lbs, drank a bunch of coffee and water and weighed nearly 189.
TIA Archived post. New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast. This will likely depend on how long you have been fasting. Fasting for a week, a workout might be detrimental. Fasting for a day and it would still be beneficial. I lost 100lbs and built a load of muscle by working out fasted.
Peopleseem to define “rolling” fasts differently, but for me, I’m typically only having one meal before I roll into my next fast. The past couple months it’s been a ~90 hour fast, one meal, followed by a 48 hour fast. Then I usually have a 20:4 schedule for Saturday before repeating the 90h, one meal, 48h fasts again.
Its a good question: we really don’t know. To some degree there is always autophagy going on. But, we don’t have any good test to figure out when it really increases in fasting. I’ve seen resources say anywhere from 8 hours to 36. I’m sure there are a lot of variables from person to person. But it doesn’t really matter.
Inlab mice (similar seen in human brains, later), the 24 hour fast provides 300% increase in autophagy, while 48 hours brings an additional 30%. Autophagy (Autophagy. 2010;6(6):702-10.) It's clear that the 48-hour fast has more benefit.
On9/12 I did a 4 1/2 day (111 hour) water fast (M-Thurs) then did OMAD Fri - Sun. Then Started dry fasting Sunday evening 9/19 and aiming to make it to next Sunday 9/26. After I pass a hard 72 hours, I may do a couple evenings with Salt water (“rehydrating windows” between 6-9pm) so that way I can extend longer if necessary.
